A little bit about myself… I have been a licensed professional counselor since 2009. I completed my master’s program in 2006 but went on to complete my doctorate of clinical psychology in 2014. Since that time, I have also completed additional education in the areas of EMDR, trauma counseling, and adoption competency.
As a therapist, I view current behavioral and interpersonal challenges within developmental and relational paradigms. While focusing on the here-and-now stressors and symptoms, we can expand our understanding of the how the past manifests in our present. Over the years, my work in inpatient and outpatient settings has solidified my belief that traumas – big and small - lay at the core of our daily struggles. In my experience, psychoeducation and increasing insight into condition are vital first steps, followed by strategizing and empowering. While we will need to identify long term treatment goals so we know we were headed, there may be days that you just need me to listen. There may be days that you need concrete strategies. And there may be days that I need to challenge you with difficult feedback. Nonjudgmental stance and holding hope for my clients informs my daily approach. I have come to understand the power of humor as a coping skill. I am truly passionate about this work and I look forward to working with you.
