About

Hi there! My name is Amy Freeman and I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker in the state of Ohio. I realized in my early teens that I had a passion for helping others and that the mental health field was the perfect profession for me to do just that. This desire to help others lead happy, productive, and fulfilling lives led me to obtain my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Bowling Green State University in 1993 and my Master’s Degree in Social Work from The Ohio State University in 1997.

Over the past 24 years, I have worked in various settings, including community mental health centers, private practice, and currently, in a primary care health center. Throughout my career, I have had experience treating individuals of all ages with a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, mood instability, opiate and other addictions, relationship difficulties, phase of life transitions, and chronic illness. I truly believe that ANYONE can benefit from counseling at some point in life and I would welcome the opportunity to work with you!

I employ a strengths-based, client-centered approach in working with my clients. I understand that human beings are resilient but sometimes need extra support to get through life’s ups and downs. I also recognize that the therapeutic alliance is the most important factor in the process of emotional and psychological healing and I strive to create a trusting relationship in which my clients feel safe, supported, and validated while we work in collaboration to meet their goals. Because no two clients are exactly alike, my approach to therapy is eclectic and includes solution-focused and cognitive behavioral therapies. I particularly enjoy educating clients on the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and assisting them with learning ways to change their thinking in order to feel better and behave differently.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, shopping with my two teenage daughters and attending their extra-curricular activities, being outdoors, and playing with my Goldendoodle, Maisey. I love the fall and watching college football, particularly The Ohio State Buckeyes. I am a huge animal lover and often find myself doing all I can to help a stray or lost animal.

I want you to know that I understand that reaching out for help can be scary and difficult for many people, but it is a brave and important first step in the road to healing. I strongly encourage you to take this initial step because you are so worth it! I will be here to support you in your life journey and to help you in any way I can! I look forward to hearing from you soon!
