Hello there! My name is Amanda Boer and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Southern California. I am beyond proud of the strength you have to take the steps to better your mental health. I take a client-centered and humanistic approach to therapy and allow the client to "take the reins" of therapy and find their truest self. This is to empower the client to take control of their own lives. My approach Within the client-centered approach, I additionally use interventions centered from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with the goal of "rewiring" our brain and maladaptive thought patterns. Additionally, I used Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), in order to allow the client to find acceptance in their mental health symptoms with the goal of flexibility and finding happiness and peace within the present moment. I also am a strong believer that my approach should fit the client, therefore, as I navigate therapy with you, I will always be shifting my approach in order to best serve the client. My focus I am most comfortable treating conditions under the following categories: Mood Disorders (Bi-Polar, Depression) Anxiety Disorders Trauma Related Disorders Psychotic Disorders Substance Abuse/Induced Disorders My communication style In my sessions, I provide direct communication that comes from a place of empathy and curiosity. I provide an environment that will allow the client to explore different solutions/options and rationalizing through those options with the client, rather than providing an answer for them (only when absolutely needed will an answer be provided). I hope to provide a safe and comforting space and always welcome feedback on how I can serve my client better. My journey to therapy As a therapist who goes to therapy, I know firsthand how life-changing and altering it can be. Finding my career and therapy was not linear but through my own struggles, I was empowered to help others who also may struggle with their mental health
