About

Profile Alyssa Leonard, LCSW

Hopeful. Confident. Empowered. We can achieve this together. People are resilient. Each of us face hardships, challenges, and significant losses. When we find ourselves in a predicament of uncertainty, sadness, confusion, or hopelessness, being able to talk with an experienced professional can ease that burden. With more than 23 years of experience, my practice has familiarized me with different populations (LGBTQ), ethnicities, age groups (birth to seniors), social-economic status, mental health diagnoses, terminal and progressive medical diagnoses. I am proficient in addressing life transitions, challenges, and matters of diversity, including addressing stigma. The majority of my work the past 11 years, has been with the Veteran population. Specifically, I have supported Veterans diagnosed with serious mental illness such as schizophrenia disorder, bipolar disorder, post- traumatic stress disorder, major depression, and other psychotic disorders. My work has centered around helping my client’s live recovery, increase happiness, reduce depression, decrease suicide ideation, and gain life enrichment. I am also, proficient in working with clients diagnosed with substance use disorders and personality disorders. I am certified and an expert in a variety of evidence -based therapies and best practices to provide individual, family, couples, and group psychotherapy.
As your therapist, not only do I bring years of knowledge, but also wide -ranging approach to psychotherapy such as art therapy and animal assisted psychotherapy. I want to learn about your experience and understand your needs and hopes for the therapy. From there we will create a treatment plan to identify specific goals to address during our time together. In a collaborative effort we will address your needs and identify coping skills. At the time of transition to termination from our time together, you will be hopeful, confident, and empowered.
