About
Hi there, I'm Allyssa! Hi there, I’m Allyssa VanHooser! I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who is passionate about assisting my clients as they transition through life’s challenges. Life can get difficult at times, and I am happy to walk alongside my clients as they heal. My approach My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client I work with. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Person-Centered Therapy, as both modalities help me and the client build a shared understanding of their journey and needs. I also like to employ sociometry when appropriate, if my client benefits from getting up and moving around during therapy to mix things up! My focus I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for adult women and men, including older teen girls and young women. I find that most of my clients present with anxiety, life transitions, relationship issues, and most recently I received training in working with cancer patients and their families. I also have a lengthy background in working with eating disorders and substance abuse. I enjoy helping my clients navigate these transition periods and build skills to allow them to heal and find peace. My communication style My communication style is personable, warm, and motivating. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything, and I pride myself on my ability to listen without judgment. My journey to therapy I decided to become a therapist after my own enlightening and healing journey with a therapist as a young adult, and having the desire to give the same help, trust, and guidance to others. I truly enjoy seeing individuals become the best versions of themselves. My goals for you My approach to goal setting with clients is all about working together to define what you want to accomplish in our time together.
