Alissa received her MSW from Tulane in 2003, and is currently working on her DSW at Simmons University with an anticipated graduation in the fall of 2023. Alissa's concentration is veterinary social work, with a focus on grief after animal loss, veterinary compassion fatigue, and animal assisted interventions. She is currently the Service Animal Champion at the GV (Sonny) Montgomery VAMC in Jackson, MS. Alissa also has experience working with individuals with severe trauma histories. She has worked with various populations, including youth in foster care, children and adults with developmental disabilities, and adults with severe and persistent mental health diagnoses.
