About

My name is Alison Tan and I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PhD). I specialize in anxiety and depression and work with clients to increase their self-efficacy through building their sense of control and self-understanding. My approach We will work together to understand your goals for therapy. My approach will vary depending on the needs of each client I work with. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral and Emotion Focused Therapy approaches that target and address the whole person. We will be diving into building insight into the connection between thoughts, behaviors, and emotions by being mindful of how culture, past experiences, the environment, and spirituality may also be influencing what is going on. My focus I typically work with adults addressing anxiety and depression that may have become more apparent due to stressors, relationship difficulties, transitions, life experiences, health changes, and sometimes a compounding of all the above. I work to help my clients navigate these transition periods and to build skills to allow them to feel more confident about themselves and their ability to tackle future difficulties. My communication style My communication style is calm, warm, and personable. I strive to create a safe place for clients to feel comfortable expressing themselves without judgment and a space where clients feel heard. My journey to therapy I was drawn to therapy because of my curiosity about the human mind and how perception shapes our understanding. I have always had the desire to help people and was convinced of what I wanted to become after watching Kelly McGonigal’s Ted Talk “How to Make Stress Your Friend”. I enjoy seeing people grow and thrive in their understanding of themselves and the world around them. My goals for you My approach to goal setting with clients is all about working together to define what you want to accomplish in our time together.
