About
I am an Independent Marriage and Family Therapist licensed in Ohio, and I have been practicing in the counseling field for over three years. I received my Master's in Counselor Education from Indiana University in 2013, and focused my studies on Marriage and Family Therapy. I have experience working with clients of all ages and various presenting problems including anxiety, depression, panic attacks, trauma, abuse, neglect, self-esteem issues, self-development issues, relational problems, parenting issues, grief/loss, and adjustment issues.
I have been trained in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics by Dr. Bruce Perry, which is a treatment modality focused on healing from past traumas. This approach looks at a person's developmental history, and assesses the impact of the trauma experienced based on what part of the brain was developing at that time. Through this assessment, I can provide feedback and interventions aimed to help heal the part of the brain that lags due to the trauma that was experienced. This approach focuses on learning healthier coping skills by incorporating evidence-based interventions and techniques.
I have also been trained in Collaborative Problem Solving, which is a treatment modality that allows the client to address challenging behaviors, and utilizes psychoeducation, empowerment, and empathy to explore solutions to the behaviors. This approach is helpful for parents who have children with problematic behaviors, but it is also useful for adults to explore why they respond a certain way, and how to change those patterns to respond in a healthier manner in the future.
If you were my client, you would quickly realize how much I value a trusting, therapeutic alliance. I value taking my time to get to know you, and understand you perspective on the issues you are facing. I typically work from a client-centered approach, and like to meet you where you are. I allow you to determine the direction of your treatment, so you can feel more empowered about understanding who you are as a person. I balance this approach with gentle challenges to push you out of your comfort zone so that you can grow and heal. I customize your treatment based specifically on your needs, and I invite you to be part of every step of the treatment process. I incorporate evidence based interventions that fit your needs, such as CBT, attachment theory, trauma assessment, and solution-focused interventions.
I believe in creating a safe haven for you to open up and express yourself in a non-judgmental atmosphere. I encourage you to take control of your treatment, and to follow through to create positive, lasting changes. Each client's treatment looks different, and I think that is of utmost importance because you are unique, and your struggles are unique to you. I am very open-minded, and I enjoy making each person feel comfortable in their own skin. I also value your strengths, and like to help you recognize them as well.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! I look forward to working with you!
