About

Effective treatment occurs when there is a trusting and well balanced relationship between therapist and client. I believe that the role of the therapist is to communicate acceptance and understanding of the client’s perspectives based on their lived experiences while also fostering change that promotes personal growth and reduces the experience of distress.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor that utilizes a collaborative approach to help clients develop insight and work toward goals that they believe will make life more meaningful. My clinical experiences have provided me the opportunity to work with individuals and families of diverse backgrounds that are facing a variety of mental health and social/environmental issues. I have an extensive background providing treatment to children and adolescents with high risk behaviors and serious persistent mental illness. In addition to this, I have experience working with individuals with mental health concerns including anxiety, mood disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder; with substance use issues; and with couples/ families. Understanding and treating trauma has been a strong area of focus in my clinical work.

I practice from a strengths-based and holistic perspective; viewing therapy as a platform to explore the narrative of the individual in order to better understand how they arrived to a place where they would like to make changes in their life. I utilize Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy approaches to work with clients by first building an understanding of how thoughts, feelings and behaviors are connected and interactional. Therapy focuses on building tangible skills to increase an ability to cope with intense/ distressing emotions, to maintain positive daily habits that promote wellness, and to identify ways to successfully navigate relationships.

Taking the first steps on a journey to self-improvement is both a meaningful and brave gesture, and I look forward to the opportunity to walk with you on this path.
