Personal Statement
Some times we need help - to manage our emotions, find joy, make sense of difficult times and difficult people, gain perspective, and/or learn skills to lead a healthier, happier life. I have found that therapy, at its best, provides the client the opportunity to process, discuss, explore, reframe, and reconsider life events and relationships in a safe, non-judgmental environment, AND also provides the client with the skills they need to move forward and create the life that they want for themselves.
Therapy or counseling is a commitment of time and money. It is important that every session provide value. I believe that treatment approaches that have been repeatedly proven to be effective provide the most value. As such, I incorporate into the therapy session approaches such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Processing Therapy, and The Gottman Method. I tailor the approach to the needs of the client, and the goals set by the client.
I have been providing counseling for over 10 years. My experience includes 7 years as a Sexual Assault and Abuse Counselor. I also worked in the hospital outpatient setting for over 4 years. As such, I have a wide experience working with a variety of mental health issues, including addictions, depression, anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, emotional management problems, self-injury, and many more. I bring that extensive experience to bear with every client. Through it all, I have learned that compassion, care, and empathy are key to helping the individual recover, and live the life they dream of living.
