Personal Statement
I have expertise in working with self-injury (“cutting”) in teens and young adults. I also have experience treating depression, anxiety, grief, and adult survivors of child sexual abuse as well as working successfully with clients to support their recovery from alcohol or drug addiction. I use an integrative approach drawing from psychodynamic, solution-focused, mindfulness based cognitive therapy and motivational interviewing theories in order to best help each client. This means that the work we do together will be tailored to meet your individual needs and goals. Many of my clients have commented on how quickly I am able to put them at their ease, and how positive their process of changing has been.
I graduated from Oakland University with my Master’s degree in Counseling and an Advanced Specialization in Mental Health Counseling. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Michigan, and certified by the National Board for Certified Counselors. I am also a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor and have experience working with addictions. I believe in lifelong learning, and am currently working towards an Advanced Specialization in Child and Adolescent Counseling and have recently completed my training to become an approved clinical Supervisor. I have taken workshops and training in multiple therapeutic techniques including play therapy and sand tray work and regularly attend professional conferences. I am a member of the American Counseling Association and the Michigan Counseling Association.
I am also an experienced presenter and trainer on topics including self-injury ("cutting"), sexual abuse, and eating disorders. In addition, I offer clinical supervision for interns and LLPCs. I currently work for an agency, which allows me to take insurance payments and work with a wider range of individuals.
