Personal Statement

My name is Erika King, and I am looking forward to working with you. My education, work, and life experiences have given me a set of clinical tools to assist clients dealing with a variety of issues. I have worked in a broad spectrum of environments, including in the home, in foster care, residential care, inpatient treatment, and several years in a private clinical practice. This has enabled me to get to experience a large range of clients with different needs and demands, bringing me to a place of clinical expertise in a variety of areas.

I enjoy working with children, adults, and families. I have specialized interest in assisting children and adolescents experiencing mood disorders such as depression, anxiety, and Bipolar Disorder. I have also worked with many children experiencing stress in the home related to divorce, blended family issues, and other childhood stressors. Over the past several years I have begun to specialize more fully in working with women who are experiencing stress related to infertility, pregnancy/infancy loss, child loss, as well as women dealing with divorce, affairs, and other life stressors. I bring an engaging, insightful, and empathic method to the table, meeting the client where they are emotionally and engaging in a gentle but consistent push towards improvement.

I use a variety of therapy methods within my clinical practice, including but not limited to Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I also enjoy incorporating Transgenerational Family Theory and Systems Theory into our dialogue. This is especially effective in working to change family communication styles and issues related to dysfunctional home environments.
