Personal Statement

Family Psychological Services of Capitol Hill is truly a family-oriented practice. I am a licensed psychologist who strives to serve all family members who may need support. This includes children, adolescents, young adults, parents, caregivers, extended family members, and the entire family system. I have helped many individuals and families understand the emotional, behavioral, and familial patterns that are keeping them from becoming their optimal selves. Additionally, I have special training and interest in working with those from diverse backgrounds and in unique family situations.

Dr. Sweeney will work with you to navigate life's everyday difficulties, help you discover your passion, and better understand the underlying patterns that guide your decisions. The goal is to encourage individual's feelings of empowerment and deepen connections - including the one with yourself. Dr. Sweeney understands that you are not just the concern that brought you to therapy. You are a full person and the intersections of gender, class, race, religion, sexuality, and others shape both who you are and how you experience the world. Whether your concerns are being directly caused by our current changes or exacerbated by them, Dr. Sweeney can provide the support you need.

I utilize a strengths-based and multisystemic approach with an emphasis on collaboration and empowerment. In addition to therapy, I also provide behavioral and educational consultation, parent support and coaching, and testing. Whatever the treatment method, my clients can expect my support every step of the way.
