Personal Statement

I believe in a brief, cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused approach to therapy. The number one goal for all of my clients is to identify realistic goals and objectives, and strive to accomplish them. With these concrete goals in mind, I attempt to guide my clients in a movement towards self-actualization.

I believe in a theory that I call Restoration Therapy. We all have stress in our lives. Sometimes stress is positive and it motivates us to achieve, others times it is negative and it forces us to shut down. Built up stressors cause us to feel as if we are no longer in control of our lives, this makes us feel anxiety. If a person stays anxious long enough, they will become angry. I feel that internalized anger ferments and becomes a resentment. Lastly, people who suffer from depression, are often times overwhelmed with stong feelings of multiple resentments. Restoration Therapy helps an individual navigate their way through their negative feelings and return to a place of restoration.

Depression has many levels and types. In my opinion, there are three main types of depression. Clinical depression is characterized by a lack of serotonin and/or norenephrine in the brain's chemistry, thus the need for psychotropic medications. Situational depression is characterized by unfortunate and/or tragic situations occurring in one's life, such as death, divorce, bankruptcy and disabilities. The last form I call atypical depression. Freud believed that internalized anger leads to depression. Hence the need for anger management and the processing of resentments.
