Personal Statement
The focus of my practice is relationship and sexual issues. I also work with clients facing other common out patient clinical needs like depression, and anxiety. My style is active and engaged, I will not sit across from you and nod but rather I lean forward, listen to what you are telling me, actively ensure that I understand, and then look with you for solutions to the challenges that you are telling me about.
For sexual issues, I take a sexual health perspective. That is, I view sexuality as an inherent part of each person's healthy life. That means, that as we search for solutions to sexual issues, we try to make sure that we are leaving room for healthy and pleasurable sexual expression. I maintain a professional nonjudgmental atmosphere that is accepting of diversity in sexual orientation, gender identities, and sexual expression (including polyamory, open relationships, and kink).
For relationship issues, I begin with a fairly structured approach that helps me assess the systemic nature of the problem. Then I work to help each member of the relationship to work towards becoming this partner they want to be. In this way they work to create the relationship they want. This systemic perspective holds each person accountable for change independently while still looking to acknowledge the interdependent nature of the challenge.
My specialties would be best suited to helping couples cope with being quarantined and/or helping couples use this experience to deepen intimacy.
