Personal Statement
As a practical, interactive therapist, I seek to provide to help to clients to resolve current problems and long-standing patterns, in a wide range of life challenges and psychological issues.
My treatment approach is to to help clients resolve current and long-standing problems . With sensitivity and compassion, I help clients find solutions to a wide range of life challenges and psychological issues.
Blending therapeutic approaches, I draw on a variety of styles and techniques to help each client. I work with each client to help them build on their strengths to achieve life goals. As a certified EMDR Therapist, I use the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) Model to inform treatment choices. That model says the brain wants to heal itself. I see therapy as a way to facilitate that healing.
The way we cope in the world is influenced by how we see the world. Asking for help, and getting a fresh perspective is often the first and most profound step toward change. Admitting you can’t do everything on your own, is the first step toward achieving healing.
I want to start off by acknowledging that I am a white, cis-gendered, able-bodied, older female. I want you to know that the trauma work that we are starting and will be doing together is going to bring up possible concerns, fears, challenges, and a need for validation/recognition of your lived experiences. I recognize that because of the many differences in our experiences and lives, discomfort, ignorance, my implicit biases, or lack of understanding will come up in our work together. As such, I would like you to know that I am able and willing to discuss/explore these barriers with you during therapy. Please know that I will not take it personally if you at any time feel uncomfortable and would like to address how I am showing up in the space where I may be activating you based on who I am. Please consider your thoughts on these statements. How do you feel about what I am saying?
